The Department of Information and Communications Technology or DICT , installed WiFi sites around the main campus and external campuses, as part of their project Free WiFi for All.  The installation of WiFi sites ' purpose is for the online classes during the pandemic when the University shifted to distance learning.  Now that face-to-face classes returned and fully implemented again, BulSU students should make use of this free WiFi , since smartphones are often used not primarily for entertainment but for educational purposes as well.  The problem lies in the internet speed , if it can hold the number of BulSU students around the main campus, with approximately 30,000 students.  There are students and also faculty members in BulSU ...

The Plight of BulSUans to Access E-library By: James Rusia Some BulSUans seek to have full and easy access to the E-library . On October 13, 2022, Bulacan State University formally inaugurated its newest seven-story E-Library. It was headed by the Senate Majority Floor Leader, Joel Villanueva alongside Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando and former University President Dr. Cecilia Navasero-Gascon.  According to BulSU’s official website, some of the E-library’s goals are to "encourage students to use library resources to further their academic pursuits" and “to be a center for access to technology and a knowledge navigator, promoting patrons' information literacy by helping them sift and evaluate information from many different sources,”  but it seems like these goals are nothing more than false promises.  According to some BulSUans, they find it hard to access or enter the 7-story building since it is not always open to students.  Most of the time, BulSUans can...

For College of Arts and Letters students like Alexandra de Leon, it is an exciting day full of planning what to wear. “Kapag Wednesday talaga, plinaplano ko kung anong damit ang isusuot ko,” she says with a wide smile. However, this newfound fashion freedom comes after a recent BSU dress code memo that made people more aware of the importance of following the dress code . Since the memo came out a month ago, university’s security is paying more attention to make sure that BulSuans follow the school's dress code. De Leon had a unique experience and remembered, “One time pumasok akong naka-crop top. Meron din akong narinig from my friends na nasita sila dahil sa ikli ng palda nila.” The memo says that students ...

LGBTQIA+ students and visitors associated with BulSU have reported instances of discrimination within the institution, leading to a strong condemnation from various organizations , including BulSU Bahaghari , BulSU SG Gender Equity and Sensitivity Committee, and BulSU Students' Rights and Welfare (SRW). Despite the passage of the Magna Carta of Students (MCOS) over a year ago, aimed at safeguarding the rights of BulSU students, BulSUans exclaimed that these rights are not being adequately upheld. Thus, there have been a mounting call for a more strict implementation of the Magna Carta. The timing of these incident...

Among these challenges, the scheduling of classes and classroom allocation have surfaced as prominent concerns impacting both students and professors . The class schedule appears consistently packed, especially during the week, diverging from the more familiar structures found in Junior and Senior High. While this predicament is not unique to BulSU and is a common issue across universities, it continues to exert stress on students and faculty members alike. In a recent interview with students at BulSU , Jen, a 3rd-year journalism student, shared her struggles with last year's schedule . She had a class that extended until 8 PM, residing in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. The challenge of commuting during rush hour, often questioning t...

The Dress Code Memorandum sparks discussion among BulSuans. By: Athena Morales Bulsuans conform to wear uniform and proper attire during wash day. On August 9, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services at the Main Campus announced the memo for a dress code. This opened a discussion among BulSuans . It caught the attention of students with all the restrictions imposed, and while some continue to conform to the guidelines , some want this removed. The dress code states that school uniforms are to be worn Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Wednesday is declared a wash day , and students are mandated to wear decent attire on this day; haltered jeans, crop tops , sandos, mini skirts, and shorts are prohibited. Friday is designated for organization shirt days. Local Student Council board member Elijah Canlas explained that some economically challenged BulSuans could have a hard time buying uniforms, and in some cases, there are students that only have three on-site classes, so it i...
